Senate election: PPP's Yousaf Raza Gillani defeats Hafeez Sheikh

ISLAMABAD:  Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has received the Senate seat, defeating PTI’s Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.

Following the announcement of the Senate election polls which concluded right this moment (Wednesday) at 5 pm,  Gilani and Sheikh shook arms and hugged one another. 

In accordance with a report by Geo.television, Hafeez’s polling agent Zain Qureshi broke the information to him, after which the 2 males shook arms and embraced one another. 

Sources say that official outcomes saying Gillani’s victory will probably be introduced later.

Analysing the newest improvement, Geo anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada stated that Gilani’s win could be a “huge upset for Prime Minister Imran Khan” as he had personally campaigned for Shaikh.

Khanzada added that Gillani’s victory may make the prime minister “even more upset with Shehryar Afridi, who wasted his vote when he signed the ballot papers,” the report stated.

Senior ministers of the federal government comparable to Fawad Chaudhry and Sheikh Rashid had earlier claimed that Sheikh would defeat the previous prime minister simply.

Analyst Irshad Bhatti agreed with Khanzada, saying that it was a “huge upset” for the federal government, including that his earlier prediction that the previous prime minister would lose had been proved fallacious.

Senate polling concludes

Polling for the Senate election commenced at 9am and continued until 5pm after which the votes have been counted.

The PDM fielded former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani as its joint nominee for the Islamabad seat in opposition to the PTI’s Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
