An organization led by American-Senegalese R&B singer Akon has signed a deal to finance a copper and cobalt mine within the Democratic Republic of Congo in a three way partnership with a state miner, based on a contract printed by the mines ministry.
The Grammy-nominated singer, recognized for hit songs like Don’t Matter and Smack That has launched numerous enterprise and philanthropic ventures throughout Africa lately, together with a $6 billion futuristic metropolis in Senegal and a cryptocurrency known as Akoin.
Akon’s foray into Congo’s mining sector comes by a US – registered agency known as White Waterfall LLC, of which he’s the president and CEO, based on contracts printed on the mines ministry web site.
One of the contracts, dated December 14 and signed by Akon, whose authorized identify is Aliaune Thiam, commits White Waterfall to paying a $2 million signing bonus and financing a feasibility examine of the Kimono reserve in Haut Katanga province. – Reuters
