'Mysterious disease' kills over 100 peacocks in Tharparkar

Over 100 peacocks have died, whereas dozens of others have fallen sick after contracting a “mysterious disease” in Tharparkar,  Geo Information reported Tuesday.

Inside every week, greater than 100 peacocks have died in over 10 villages of Mithi, Islamkot, and Diplo tehsils in Tharparkar, sources mentioned, including that over two dozen peacocks are presently affected by the illness.

The peacocks have a illness referred to as ‘Rani Khait’, mentioned an official from the poultry division.

“Peacocks are wild birds that do not have proper vaccination,” mentioned one resident.

They’re given multivitamins and antibiotics as a precautionary measure, he mentioned.

They mentioned the peacocks have swollen necks, whereas the Wildlife division suspects that almost all of them have died as a consequence of malnutrition.
