ISLAMABAD: An FIR lodged towards PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif — blaming him for legal conspiracy over his latest “provocative speeches” that have been created from London — created a divide within the federal cupboard, sources knowledgeable Geo News.
According to sources, throughout a gathering of the federal cupboard on Tuesday, two federal ministers and a particular assistant advised that the FIR registered towards Nawaz “should reach its logical conclusion”.
However, Prime Minister Imran Khan and different members of the cupboard remained adamant that the federal government was not in favour of exacting political revenge on the opposition.
“The government is not involved with this FIR,” PM Imran Khan was quoted as saying throughout the assembly.
The different ministers, in accordance with sources, have been of the opinion that the FIR towards Nawaz must be dismissed.
Nawaz, others booked in legal conspiracy case
The FIR registered towards Nawaz on October 1 was lodged by a citizen within the Shahdra Police Station’s jurisdiction. The case was registered below the provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code for legal conspiracy towards the PML-N chief and different leaders.
The divide comes a day after Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry stated that PM Imran was unaware of the case and that he had expressed “extreme displeasure” over it.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan was unaware of any such [first information report] FIR when I informed him about it, he expressed extreme displeasure,” Fawad Chaudhry stated in response to journalist Hamid Mir who had shared the copy of FIR.
“Filing treason cases is not our [PTI government’s] policy. These were the tactics [used during] Nawaz Sharif’s tenure,” he stated.
Meanwhile, responding to the case, info minister Shibli Faraz distanced PM Imran and his authorities from it, saying that somebody associated to the opposition might have performed it.
“This FIR can be done by anyone. You can do it against me. I will say that someone [opposition] of theirs must have done it,” Faraz advised the media in a press convention after the federal cupboard’s assembly.
The minister additional stated that PM Imran and his authorities shouldn’t be concerned within the matter.
“Punjab authorities will discover out who did this and examine it. This has nothing to do with us [federal government],” stated Faraz. He added that PM Imran was neither “free” neither does he go after FIRs.
